MONARK CARGO HISTORY

ABOUT OUR BRANDS

OUR HISTORY

Our Cargo bikes has a long and rich history that begins in two Swedish cities at the beginning of the last century. A early as 1910, the first Kroon bike was manufactured in Vansbro. From Kroon we have the tradition of sturdy, high quality bikes.

About the same time Monark was founded in Varberg by Birger Svensson. Svensson then became known as "the Poor Boy who became Sweden's bicycle monarch". The bicycle factory became one of the leading companies in Sweden. Monark.
In the 1970s Monark bought the old bicycle factory, CH Kroon and the factory in Vansbro has since then manufactured Cargo and disabillity bikes under the name Monark.

In 1954, the aviation physician Wilhelm von Döbeln, the instrument maker Harry Hagelin and Professor P-O Åstrand designed the first Monark ergometer cycle. A bike that was way ahead of its time and still is manufactored at the Vansbro factory. The Parent company Monark Exercise AB was born.

Monak Cargo's bikes are available in a variety of designs; from cargo bikes to kick scooters, tricycles and tandem bikes and the well-known mail bike.

Monark's mail bike is an appreciated work tool in several post offices in Europe and development continues constantly.

Monark Exercise AB is part of Cycleurope AB, which is owned by the Salvatore Grimaldi family. The group includes brands such as Bianchi, Crescent, DBS, Everton, Gitane, Kildemoes, Monark, Peugeot, Puch, TEC and Spectra.
